Maryam is a fun loving artist who spends most of her time painting. She creates abstracts using daily, recognizable elements from life allowing the viewer to be confronted with the conditioning of his own perception.
Artist Statement
I think of my creations as speculative. Allowing the viewer to move into a space of speculation. I use a lot of bright colors to tell a story and rely on beauty, the people in my life, nature and the colors around me to create stories. My paintings bring life to a room, they bring character.
My father painted a bit, on and off when he was younger. He has a great eye for art and is an avid art collector. I think that's where this started off as a hobby, something I did in my free time, but soon enough I began to spend more and more time painting. It became a part of me, I found it very relaxing and almost therapeutic. Being in a room filled with paints allowed me to shut out the rest of the world. I forget all the worries of daily life as I delve into this magical world of colors.
I usually don't have a specific subject in mind when I begin painting. Sometimes a day at the beach with girlfriends will inspire me to come home and start drawing, whereas other times, I just stare at a blank canvas and start with a specific color until it turns into something that appeals to me. My work is very abstract, very modern. I don't like to explain my paintings but rather like viewers to decipher their own meaning from them.
